Walking Holidays in Romania - Romania - Cindrel Mountains

Cindrel Mountains

Photo of the accommodation

On this trek we have selected small family run accommodations (or Pensiunea) with the exceptions on nights 4 & 7. All rooms have a private bathroom, mostly with showers rather than a bath tub. You will be assured of dinner with Romanian specialities and country breakfasts. You will soon realise the welcoming nature of Romanian hospitality, as in most cases the owners will welcome you personally into their cherished accommodations.

We have personally stayed in or visited all of our accommodations. They have all been selected for their great locations, friendly atmosphere and traditional hospitality, as well as the warm welcome they offer to walkers. Below is a summary of our usual accommodations*.

On this trek, the accommodations are mostly small and family-run ‘Pensiuneas’ with the exception of two nights in larger hotels; all rooms have a private bathroom.

Nights 1 & 2: Sibiel

This small, yet comfortable 3* Pensiunea is situated opposite the old church on the main road within the village.  No doubt the friendly owners will offer to show you their traditional wooden Romanian house set within their gardens – they are very proud of their preservation and it certainly is very interesting.

All rooms feature free Wi-Fi, television, air conditioning/heating and private bathroom with WC & shower.

Night 3: Orlat

Located close to the river in the village centre, this smart Pensiunea has just 6 rooms, all full of traditional Romanian character. Outside seating is available where you may take your breakfast and/or dinner – perhaps with the very hospitable and sociable owners.

All rooms feature free Wi-Fi, television, air conditioning/heating and private bathroom with WC & shower.

Night 4: Păltiniş

Your accommodation here is a slight contrast to your previous nights as this historic hotel is much larger and more luxurious than the Pensiunea’s, although it is still in-keeping with traditional Romanian style. You can relax in the pool or use the spa facilities if you wish. Most rooms have balconies and are well equipped with mini-bars. There is a café and an à-la-carte restaurant with a good wine list.

All rooms feature free Wi-Fi, television, air conditioning/heating and private bathroom with WC, shower and hairdryer.

Nights 5 & 6: Răsinari

This traditional wooden Pensiunea is set close to the river along the cobbled streets of this lovely village where there is still much horse drawn transport. All 6 rooms are finished to a high standard of traditional style. The food is exceptional here and uses local produce including good local cheeses. Meals are accompanied by homemade wine and schnapps provided by the friendly owners.

All rooms feature free Wi-Fi, television, air conditioning/heating and private bathroom with WC & shower.

Night 7: Sibiu

Your last night is spent in Sibiu itself to fully immerse yourself in this beautifully cultural city. This larger hotel is located 20-25 minutes’ walk from the town centre (you can’t get a hotel much closer to the town squares) and has its own restaurant where you take a buffet breakfast. Dinner isn’t included here as there are many wonderful restaurants in the centre to choose from.

All rooms feature free Wi-Fi, television, air conditioning/heating and private bathroom with WC & shower.

*Alternate Accommodation

We will always endeavour to use the accommodations detailed above. Occasionally, due to limited availability or refurbishments, we may have to accommodate you into alternative accommodations which are not listed in the above description. If those listed are unavailable, the alternative accommodation will be of the same or better standard than those described.
