Istrian Trek

Both the standard and higher grade hotels are a mixture of 3* and 4* and most of them have indoor or outdoor swimming pools. If you opt for the higher grade hotels you can enjoy a swimming pool and spa facilities on 5 of your 7 nights. Many of the hotels are family-owned, historic buildings with stunning views overlooking the Istrian landscape. All rooms have private bathrooms, mostly with showers.

We have personally stayed in or visited all of our accommodations. They have all been selected for their great locations, friendly atmosphere and traditional hospitality, as well as the warm welcome they offer to walkers. Below is a summary of our usual accommodations*.

On this trek, the accommodations are mostly small and family-run, all rooms have a private bathroom. You can choose to upgrade on five nights to higher grade accommodation.

Nights 1 & 2: Buje

This family-owned “peaceful oasis” is situated in the rural area of Volpija near Buje, making it a great place to relax after a long walk. The hotel features a “Konoba” restaurant that offers traditional regional delicacies and of course locally sourced truffles when in season. During cooler evenings you can enjoy the comfort of a log fire in the restaurant. There is free Wi-Fi available at the hotel reception.

 All rooms feature television, air conditioning and private bathroom with WC and shower.

Nights 3 & 4: Motovun

This stunning family-owned hotel is located in a 17th-century palace at the very top of a hill where the medieval town of Motovun stands. Almost every window offers exceptional views of the landscape of Istria, giving a feeling of complete relaxation. They also offer wellness centre facilities including swimming pool, sauna, massages and a wellness garden. The hotel is very proud of their restaurant which offers a combination of modern, creative and traditional Istrian cuisine. Room upgrades to a superior room, apartment or exclusive room with balcony are available at a small supplement.

All rooms feature free Wi-Fi, television, telephone and private bathroom with WC, shower, bath and hairdryer.

Nights 5 & 6: Buzet

This beautiful boutique hotel is located on a hilltop in the old part of the town of Buzet. It offers stunning views of the River Mirna valley and a completely relaxed getaway for tired walkers. The charmingly furnished rooms retain an antique atmosphere although they are equipped for modern life. As well as the lovely restaurant area, you can eat outside if the weather permits. Room upgrades to superior or president rooms are available at a small supplement. Some rooms also include a massage bathtub.

All rooms feature free Wi-Fi, television, telephone, minibar, safe and private bathroom with WC, shower/bath and hairdryer.

Night 7: Lovran

This friendly hotel provides excellent service and comfort and is located in the old town of Lovran, only 100m from the sea and the famous promenade that connects Lovran and Opatija. Here you can enjoy the clean air, quiet surroundings, good local food and the idyllic small town of Lovran. This hotel is on a B&B basis, so you can select where to dine from the many sea front restaurants now that you are familiar with Istrian cuisine. This hotel also has a locally famous coffee shop which bakes delicious pastries. It also features a wellness centre that includes an indoor pool, fitness centre, massages, whirlpool and a selection of teas. The hotel has free Wi-Fi available to all their guests in the reception area. Room upgrades to a sea-facing room are available at a small supplement.

Higher Grade Accommodations

Nights 1 & 2: Brtonigla

This stunning family-owned hotel is perched on top of a hill in the pretty Istrian village of Brtonigla, from where the sea can be reached in just a few minutes. Close to the church of All Saints, this hotel was built on the ruins of an ancient castle. The hotel features a gourmet restaurant, wine cellar, wellness centre, outdoor and indoor pool, sauna, massages, terrace, private garden and olive groves.

Night 7: Lovran

Surrounded by a beautiful Mediterranean garden, this hotel is located in the old town of Lovran. From here you can admire the views of Mount Učka from the spacious garden terrace. It has a glass-enclosed wellness centre with indoor swimming pool, sun terrace, hot tub and saunas. This hotel is on a B&B basis so you can select where to dine from the many recommended restaurants in the area and have an authentic Istrian dining experience to finish off your trip.

We will always endeavour to use the accommodations detailed above. Occasionally, due to limited availability or refurbishments, we may have to accommodate you into alternative accommodations which are not listed in the above description. If those listed are unavailable, the alternative accommodation will be of the same or better standard than those described.
