On this trek, the accommodations are mostly small and family-run, all rooms have a private bathroom.
We have personally stayed in or visited all of our accommodations. They have all been selected for their great locations, friendly atmosphere and traditional hospitality, as well as the warm welcome they offer to walkers. Below is a summary of our usual accommodations*.
Nights 1 & 7: Krems
This well located 3* hotel is situated directly on the river Krems in the town centre, so you can enjoy a wonderful view over the picturesque old town of Krems. The hotel was built in 1887 and is still run by the same family. Dinner (large choice) and extensive buffet breakfast can be taken on the terrace overlooking the river.
All rooms feature free Wi-Fi, television, telephone and private bathroom with WC, shower/bath and hairdryer.
Night 2: Dürnstein
Situated in the centre of Dürnstein, this hotel has beautiful views from the large courtyard garden to the famous blue & white tower of the parish church (formerly an Augustinian Abbey). This 3* hotel has been in the Schendl family for over 200 years.
All rooms feature free Wi-Fi, television, telephone and private bathroom with WC, shower/bath and hairdryer.
Nights 3 & 4: Weissenkirchen
This family run 3* hotel is located very close to the river and the centre of town. You can sample local wine in their ‘cellar’ and many guests congregate here in the evening. Buffet breakfast in the hotel but dinner is taken in a nearby restaurant.
All rooms feature free Wi-Fi, television, telephone, minibar and private bathroom with WC, shower/bath and hairdryer.
Night 5: Spitz
One of the oldest hotels in the area, this 3* hotel welcomed its first guests in the mid 1600’s. Fortunately the rooms have been updated since then some have a bath but most with shower, a few have a balcony. Dinner and breakfast can be enjoyed in the gardens.
All rooms in the hotel feature free Wi-Fi, television, telephone and private bathroom with WC, bath/shower and hairdryer.
Night 6: Melk
This family run 3* hotel is located in the centre of the town, near the famous baroque abbey. It has a sauna, solarium and Turkish bath, some of their 74 rooms have a balcony. Dinner and breakfast are taken in a ‘stubl’.

We will always endeavour to use the accommodations detailed above. Occasionally, due to limited availability or refurbishments, we may have to accommodate you into alternative accommodations which are not listed in the above description. If those listed are unavailable, the alternative accommodation will be of the same or better standard than those described.
